What is Rudraksha?

Lord Shiva said - Maheshwari! Listen, I am describing the glory of Rudraksha with the desire to benefit your devotees out of love. It is a matter of the past, I kept my mind under control and was engaged in severe penance for thousands of divine years. One day suddenly my mind became agitated. Parmeshwari! I am the independent God who does good to all the worlds. So at that time I opened both my eyes as a part of my play, as soon as I opened them, some drops of water fell from my beautiful eye sockets. Rudraksha was born from those drops of tears. To bestow grace on the devotees, the teardrops became immovable. I distributed those Rudrakshas to Vishnu devotees and people of all four castes. I produced my favorite Rudraksha on the earth in the region of God. I also grew its sprouts in Mathura, Ayodhya, Lanka, Maligiri, Kashi and other countries. Those excellent Rudrakshas are capable of destroying unbearable groups of sins and are also the inspiration for the Shrutis.

Mythological significance

Suji says- Mahapragya! Mahamate! Shiva Roop Sonak! Now listen, I am telling you briefly about the greatness of Rudraksha. Rudraksha is very dear to Shiva. It should be considered as the most sacred. By seeing, touching and chanting on Rudraksha, it is believed to take away all sins. Muni! In ancient times, Lord Shiva described the glory of Rudraksha in front of Goddess Parvati to gift it to all people.

Description of types of Rudraksha and their distinctions

Parvati! There are many types of Rudraksha. I am describing their distinctions. These distinctions give fruits in the form of enjoyment and salvation. Listen to their introduction with great devotion. The one-faced Rudraksha is the form of Lord Shiva himself. It gives fruits in the form of enjoyment and salvation. Lakshmi does not go away from the place where Rudraksha is worshipped. All the troubles of that place are destroyed and all the desires of the people living there are fulfilled. The two-faced Rudraksha is called Devdeveshwar. It gives all desires and fruits. The three-faced Rudraksha always gives the fruits of Sadhana, all the knowledge is established by its influence. The four-faced Rudraksha is the form of Brahma himself. It gives the four Purusharthas of Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha quickly by its sight and touch. The five-faced Rudraksha is the form of Kalaragini Rudra himself. It is capable of doing everything. It gives salvation to all and provides all the desired results. Panchmukhi Rudraksha removes all sins. Six-faced Rudraksha is the form of Kartikeya. If it is worn in the right arm, then the person wearing it becomes free from sins like brahmahatya etc. There is no doubt in this.

Maheshwari! 7-faced Rudraksha is famous by the name of Anand Swaroop and Anang. By wearing it, even a poor person becomes wealthy. 8-faced Rudraksha is the form of Ashtamurti Bhairav, by wearing it, a person lives a full life and after death he becomes Shankar with a spear. 9-faced Rudraksha is considered to be the symbol of Bhairav and Kapil Muni or Maheshwari Durga who takes nine forms is considered to be its presiding deity. The person who is devoted and wears nine-faced Rudraksha in his left hand, he definitely becomes the lord of all like me, there is no doubt in this. Maheshwari! The 10 faced Rudraksha is the form of Lord Vishnu himself. The 11 faced Rudraksha is the form of Rudra. By wearing it, a man becomes victorious everywhere. Wear the 12 faced Rudraksha in the hair region, by wearing it 12 Adityas are seated on the human head. The 13 faced Rudraksha is the form of Vishnu. By wearing it, a man gets all his desires and gains good fortune and happiness. The 14 faced Rudraksha is the ultimate form of Shiva, wear it on the head with devotion, by doing this all the sins are destroyed.

Mantras for wearing a Rudraksha in sequence

एकमुखी - साक्षात् शिव का रूप । वह भोग और मोक्षरूपी फल प्रदान करता है ।
मन्त्र - ॐ ह्रीं नमः

दो मुखी - यह देवदेवेश्वर कहा जाता है । सभी मनोकामनाओं और फलों को देने वाला है ।
मन्त्र - ॐ नमः

तीन मुखी - सदा साक्षात् साधन का फल देने वाला, उसके प्रभाव से सभी विद्याएं प्रतिष्ठित होती हैं ।
मन्त्र - क्लीं नमः

चतुर्मुखी - साक्षात् ब्रह्मा का रूप, स्पर्श से शीघ्र ही चरों पुरुषार्थ सिद्ध करता है ।
मन्त्र - ॐ ह्रीं नमः

पंचमुखी - साक्षात् कालाग्निरुद्र रूप, सब कुछ करने में समर्थ तथा समस्त कामनाओं को पूरा और पापों का नाश करने वाला ।
मन्त्र - ॐ ह्रीं नमः

छ मुखी - इसे दाहिनी बांह में धारण करने से मनुष्य ब्रह्महत्या आदि पापों से मुक्त हो जाता है, यह कार्तिकेय का स्वरुप है ।
मन्त्र - ॐ ह्रीं हुं नमः

सात मुखी - यह अनंगस्वरूप है और अनङ्ग नाम से ही प्रसिद्ध है । इसके धारण से दरिद्र भी वैभवशाली हो जाता है ।
मन्त्र - ॐ हुं नमः

आठ मुखी - यह अष्टमूर्ति भैरवरूप है । इसके धारण से मनुष्य पूर्णायु होता है ।
मन्त्र - ॐ हुं नमः

नौ मुखी - इसे भैरव व् कपिल मुनि का प्रतीक माना गया है अथवा नौ रूप धारण करनेवाली दुर्गा उसकी अधिष्ठात्री देवी मानी गयी हैं । बाएं हाथ में इसे धारण करने से वह निश्चय ही सर्वेश्वर हो जाता है ।
मन्त्र - ॐ ह्रीं हुं नमः

दस मुखी - साक्षात् भगवान् विष्णु का रूप, सभी कामनाएं पूर्ण करने वाला ।
मन्त्र - ॐ ह्रीं नमः

ग्यारह मुखी - रूद्र रूप, धारक सर्वत्र विजयी होता है ।
मन्त्र - ॐ ह्रीं हुं नमः

बारह मुखी - यह केश प्रदेश में धारण किया जाता है, इसे धारण करने से मानो बारहों आदित्य विराजमान हो  जाते  हैं ।
मन्त्र - ॐ क्रौं क्षौं रौं नमः

तेरह मुखी - यह विश्वेदेवों का स्वरुप है । इनको धारण करने से मनुष्य सौभाग्य पाटा तथा मंगल लाभ करता है ।
मन्त्र - ॐ ह्रीं नमः

चौदह मुखी - यह परम शिव रूप है, इसे भक्तिपूर्वक मस्तक पर धारण करें। इससे पापों का नाश हो जाता है ।
मन्त्र - ॐ नमः
